Colossians 1:28-29

Dear Parents,

As our teenagers get closer to life after high school, we want them to know that Jesus desires to be a part of their story and that he will be with them each step of the way. So we will start a new three-lesson series this week titled “What’s Next?”

This week, we will read John 17:20-21, where Jesus prayed just hours before his crucifixion. What did he do? He prayed for his first disciples and for everyone else who would ever follow him. That includes people like us!

Jesus wants us to be connected to him through prayer. The disciples had always had Jesus right next to them; they could touch him and see him. But soon their faith would be tested as they placed their trust in him in a new way. In a similar way, our students will face new seasons in their faith. We encourage you to help them learn to live a life of prayer, connected to Jesus.

This week, have a great conversation with your teenager about life after high school. Here are some questions you can build your conversation around:

  • Imagine you are one of the disciples with Jesus as he prayed in John 17. What would it have been like to hear Jesus praying for you?
  • How does praying connect and unify us to Jesus?
  • If you feel uncomfortable with verbal prayers to Jesus, what other ways can you bring your prayer to him?

Thanks for praying for our students and our ministry. May Jesus’ love shine in your household and in your lives! Have a blessed week!
